Libby, dedication by Gerald Post, DVM, DACVIM

"To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides."
David Viscott, How to Live with Another Person, 1974

Libby, passed on February 6th, 2005
Nancy DeLieto

She was the "Ace of Space"!
Always a big smile on her face...

Pick up a ball and she was ready to chase.
Even though her moves were not full of grace.

She was the "Leudy Queen" our wooza wooza girl...
When anyone entered her bottom would twirl...
East to west... East to west...
Be still now and have a good rest.

I tried to write this dedication but kept stopping as I tried to write about two people or the pet they loved and lost. It is only when I realized that what I wanted to celebrate the companionship that existed between these people and their dog that I was able to express myself clearly.

Normally dedications are made to people who have made great contributions. But this dedication needed to be more than just lauding the financial, emotional, psychological or physical help these two people have given the Animal Cancer Foundation. It is true that over the years Kate and Nancy have helped with every aspect of the Foundation; from inviting people to our events to informing every one they meet about our mission and great work. These two wonderful women have taken time from their lives to order and sell bracelets to help raise money for the Animal Cancer Foundation.

This dedication is to celebrate the wonderful and incredible bond Kate and Nancy had with their Libby. Libby was a beautiful Golden Retriever who lost her battle with hemangiosarcoma in March of 2005. It was obvious from the moment you met them that as much as Kate and Nancy adored Libby, that emotion was returned equally by Libby. She lit up when she heard their voices; her tail did not stop wagging when they were around. This dedication is a celebration of that companionship.

The Animal Cancer Foundation dedicates this page not only to Kate and Nancy and Libby, but to the love they shared for each other. Cancer ended Libby's life, but it also served to intensify Kate and Nancy's dedication to help the Animal Cancer Foundation find ways to better treat, diagnose or prevent cancer.

For the love that was shared between Kate, Nancy and Libby we dedicate this page.
